I like fold up,s , Klepper, Nautiraid,Longhaul,Folbot are four well known makes and they can be sailed quite well, if storage is in short supply they can be taken apart, ( i have lot,s of storage space but take mine apart after every use ) The two seater models are quite wide , stable , and can be paddled or sailed alone. And can last a lifetime. ( a replacment hull will probably be needed after 25 years or so ) Kleppers have sailed across the Atlantic.

I want to Kayak both sea and lakes... I actually have a lake very close to where I live.....Can Anyone suggest what kind of Kayak to purchase. Would like to make an informed purchase... opinions are welcome!

We finally have open water on Great Slave and the surrounding rivers. I have been out once on the big lake a week ago around the shorline and last Sunday got onto the Yellowknife river. Great fun even managed to get the sails up on the river for a quick sprint or two.

Summer is now approaching the north and it,s getting time to make sure our boats and equipment is ready, especially for folding boat people to check and see if any minor repairs are needed. I treat my hulls (skin) to the special preservative obtainable from Folbot or Klepper, this is applied after washing the boat and if you have a wood frame some varnish might be required and then have a quick look at your sails, if you havn,t got sails now is the time to buy them, for convenience the Pacific Action sail is good except for "up wind" sailing, something i am going to try and do by moving my lee boards (i have made larger ones over the winter) another sail that looks like it may be convenient and easy to use is the Wind Paddle but i don,t intend to get one as i have a Lateen sail on order. I hope to sail and paddle on Lake Superior, Lake Nipigon, and Long Lake at Longlac (Ontario) as well as my local small lakes around Manitouwadge. If time is on my side it would be nice to meet any members who are visiting the Canadian side of Lake Superior.

Well spring is on the way for us in the north and if anyone wants a boost have a good look at Pacific Action sails, easy to mount, easy to use, and easy to lower and stow, and then it,s easy to keep paddling, a super sail and relativly easy on the pocket. I have three and never regretted buying them.

Who is interested to paddle warm waters in Indonesia ?
We leave on a tour around the Pulau Banyak archipelago fr 7th march - 15th.
This area is one of the last wildernesses of western Indonesia with uninhabited islands, big snakes, crocs...
We will leave Medan ( Sumatra ) early on the 7th.
Cost should be about 200 US ex Medan.

well we are very much officially ice bound here in yellowknife and are down to two paddling choices cment pond or travel. I would love to do the second part but that takes money. Cheers greg
