What do you use as a shelter while kayak camping? I use a Gore-Tex "Bivy-Sack".

LOL maybe it's my "old-man" back or I usually only find unforgiving rocky ground to camp on =) My cot rolls up in a neat little bundle that fits nicely in the nose of my kayak. My cot, bivie (which...

Gore-Tex "Bivy-Sack" (an extremely small, lightweight, waterproof shelter) What do you use as a shelter? Sleeping on a kayak camping trip it's best to keep gear down as much as possible and to us...

Guy,
It does help, thank you! In fact, I'm really interested in a place where you live. Frankly speaking, I'm really surprised to hear about deserts in Canada - it's like a revelation to me! I've never been to a desert and Canada has never associated with one in my head! Is it like a real desert with dunes and sand and hot sun all ther year round?
From my Internet experience I know that BC is a jewel place for flat water paddling. I like this kind of paddling a lot as it gives me spirits and piece of mind - I hate categorizing as far as paddling is concerned - it's all passion and beauty regardless of the style.
What's your favourite place to paddle around your place? In my country I have only flat water rivers and plain lakes so initially flatwater canoeing was my paddling experience...

Guy,
Is it really THAT cold in Calgary? As far as I know you have enough snow on the coast too or am I wrong?
What about those cowbows - you mean rude people around and all that?
I've heard a lot about Vancouver Island whitewater heaven but I really haven't heard much about whitewater rivers around Calgary - do you think it's that bad around the place?
Thanx for the information!

Hi Guy!!!!
I haven't dropped in for a visit in this neighborhood in a while and so here I am. It's a good thing my sister-in-law has a pot of coffee brewing, 'cuz I don't smell the delectable aroma here this time around. Hey, there are some awesome photos on this site that are perfect for Fun Friday at ecopaparazzi. I've sent a couple of notes to folks asking if I can use some photos. I hope they say "yes."

Guy what you have done is very good but as i know so little about web sites i will have problems, what is easy when you know how in reality isn,t there are many instruction manuals which we all get are very often of no use at all, After a lifetime of using manual film cameras and developing and printing in the dark room i find the instructions with digital cameras a maze which i will never get through, the camera has to be virtually on auto. So for running the kayaking ontario section i don,t think i should, i will contribute when i can . John

Thye conference just happens to be taking place here and I can save them the airfare by attending. I will just catch the last day when I return from Edmonton. I think that this is a fight that we will win and there are other fish to fry. The oil sands is a major threat to everyone, a mess visable from space. I never really worried about this until a while ago and themI looked around and thought This sucks, Greg
